For me, long-distance hiking is a meditation. I just really find myself at peace. … It gives me the time to sort through the things that are in my mind and try to process the things that are going on in the world. Heading back from Mt Fitz Roy we came across this young hiker asking how far it was to summit Laguna de Los Tres and at first sight, we were amazed he made it this far. Drench from all the rain, frozen with blue lips and dressed in casual jeans and a Go-Pro to film his certain hyperthermia; we convinced him it wasn't a great idea and that it would be even colder at the top. Mother Nature doesn't discriminate — you don't have to pay money for a hike, it's one of those things that's accessible to everyone, and I love that about it. … It rains and shines on all of us the same. Be prepared and stay safe on the trails.
